Hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso
You reach the hermitage in 20 minutes by boat from Stresa. It is literally hanging between the rock and the lake with all its charm. While approaching, you can see the three buildings that form it: the southern cloister, the small cloister and the church. Inside the church is the old small chapel dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria, the core of the hermitage. The church is decorated by rare frescos of the beginning of the 14th century and a Baroque altar. In a yard there is a huge winepress built in 1759. Terraces offer a wonderful view to Lake Maggiore and the surrounding mountains..
